Pierce Archer, Portfolio Manager
Pierce is a founder and a Radnor Capital Management owner. He has a long history of both portfolio management and firm leadership. Pierce managed portfolios for individuals, families, and institutional and charitable (not-for-profit/non-profit) clients at the former Radnor Capital Management (RCM 1.0), a firm he helped to found in 1990 with other senior investment professionals from Newbold’s Investment Advisors.
In 1999, RCM merged with U.S. Trust Company. At U.S. Trust, Pierce was a Managing Director responsible for private client assets of more than $400 million, He also participated in the equity research and stock selection processes and oversaw the purchase of tax exempt municipal bonds for regional client portfolios.
Before re-founding the new Radnor Capital Management in 2012, Pierce was with Pennsylvania Trust Co., where his principal responsibilities as Senior Vice President included portfolio management as well as developing and implementing investment policy, strategy and security selection for that firm’s Equity Income Portfolio.
Pierce earned his B.A. in Environmental Studies from Colby College, and has served on numerous not-for-profit boards and committees. He is a member of The Association for Investment Management and Research and The CFA Society of Philadelphia.
Douglas Pyle, Portfolio Manager
Doug is a founder and owner of Radnor Capital Management, LLC.
Doug was a partner in Radnor Capital “1.0” where he developed their small cap investment program which is still in operation today. Prior to Radnor 1.0 Doug worked on Wall Street where he was a managing director at Lehman Brothers. Returning to Philadelphia, he became Managing Partner of Cashman, Farrell and Associates in Berwyn, Pa. He then joined Radnor Capital 1.0 developing and managing the small cap effort for Radnor Capital. After the partners of Radnor Capital 1.0 sold it to the U.S. Trust Company of New York, and through a series of related mergers/acquisitions, Doug went on to manage $2 billion in small cap assets as the portfolio manager of the Columbia Select Small Cap Fund for Columbia Threadneedle, U.S. His insights have been featured on CNBC and in Forbes Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. He resigned from Columbia in 2012, along with his staff, to start Radnor Capital “2.0”.
Doug graduated from The Ohio State University with dual majors in Finance and Marketing. He earned an M.B.A. from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from the ABA National Trust School of Northwestern University.
His local community activities include serving on the investment committee of the Board of Inglis House, on the Board of Trustees of the Benchmark School in Media, Pa., and was formerly a trustee of FRP, a Quaker organization dedicated to low income housing in Philadelphia.
Jennifer Byrne, CFA, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager
At RCM, Jennifer manages equity and balanced portfolios and contributes to the research process.
Before joining Radnor Capital Management (RCM), Jennifer was a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at U.S. Trust Company, where she managed approximately $600 million in assets for individuals, families and non-profit organizations. She provided asset allocation analysis and implemented investment strategies through highly customized portfolios as well as through select independent outside advisors.
Jennifer was a partner at the former RCM “1.0” from 1993 through its sale to U.S. Trust Company. She managed individual and institutional accounts and contributed to the research process. Jennifer also worked with Doug Pyle as a member of the Small Cap team prior to its spin off to Columbia Management.
Jennifer also served as the Chief Investment Officer for the American Medical Association, as a nationally ranked manager of several healthcare mutual funds and as a sell-side analyst for Butcher and Singer, the Philadelphia-based regional brokerage firm.
Jennifer received her B.A. from Drew University. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Society Philadelphia. She is a Board member, Chair of the investment committee and Past President of the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls. She also serves on the investment committee of the Chester County Community Foundation.
John August Gerhardt, CFA, Senior Portfolio Manager
Prior to joining Radnor Capital Management in mid-2020, August was a Vice President at Pennsylvania Trust, where he was a portfolio manager and a member of that firm’s investment committee. In the latter role, he made investment recommendations based on fundamental research for the firm’s Multi-Cap Value and Equity Income strategies. Starting 2019, he also managed the firm’s Equity Income strategy. Prior to Pennsylvania Trust, August was an investment analyst with Spartan Capital, LLC, which merged with Pennsylvania Trust in 2012. August is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the CFA Society of Philadelphia.
August received his B.A. from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where he double majored in Economics and International Relations. He also attended The London School of Economic.
Elisabeth Schwan, CFA, Director of Research
Elisabeth is an equity securities analyst at Radnor Capital Management (RCM), where she produces investment ideas and information based on quantitative and fundamental research. She has served in this capacity since the firm’s inception in 2012.
Elisabeth has been in the investment business since 1982. Before RCM, she held a similar position with the former Radnor Capital Management “1.0” and its successor companies, which included U.S. Trust Company and Columbia Management Investment Advisers, spanning the period 1992-2012.
Prior to this, she was a securities analyst at American Capital Management & Research, where she developed value-oriented stock ideas and assisted the manager of a mutual fund. She also held equity analyst positions at David L. Babson and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
Before the investment business, Elisabeth worked for Burlington Industries in various assignments in audit, market research, and controller’s staffs.
Elisabeth is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute and CFA Society of Philadelphia. She received a B.A. in Economics from Bryn Mawr College and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.
Andrea Funk, Chief Operating Officer
The Chief Operating Officer and Office Manager at Radnor Capital Management, Andrea serves as the office manager, the compliance officer and Doug’s and Jennifer’s assistant.
Andrea was with the former RCM, staying with the firm after its purchase by U.S. Trust and through subsequent acquisitions.
Andrea comes to the firm from Columbia Management Investment Advisers, where she was Senior Equity Portfolio Assistant, working with Douglas Pyle. Prior to joining RCM “1.0” in 1999, Andrea was with The Vanguard Group.
She received her B.S. in Marketing from LaSalle University and holds a Paralegal Certificate from the Paralegal Institute of Philadelphia.
Mary Ellen Gilroy, Client Service Officer
Mary Ellen has over 25 years of experience working with high net worth clients and foundations. Before joining Radnor Capital in mid-2020, Mary Ellen was a Senior Investment Assistant and part of the Investment Department at Pennsylvania Trust, where she worked with investment advisory clients, Foundations and Trusts. Mary Ellen was a Senior Investment Assistant at 1838 Investment Advisors, where she worked with high net worth families and institutional clients of the firm. Prior to joining 1838 in 1996, she was an assistant in the Personal Law Section of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
Linda Knight, Account Administrator
Linda is a dedicated, service-oriented professional with more than 20 years experience in the financial industry. Her background includes retail banking, trust operations and account administration, with a particular expertise in computer processes.
She worked with Bank of New York Mellon as a Reconciliation Analyst in Money Managers Outsourcing and previously was the Reconciliation Team Lead in Portfolio Accounting.
Linda holds degrees in Business Administration, Investments and Accounting
